Filming is underway in Madrid for Brutal, a new Netflix thriller starring Bárbara Lennie and Carmen Machi. Netflix announced the production on November 5 and named Albert Pintó as its director.
Lennie plays Inspector Álex Lazkano, whose investigation into a murder leads her to a case from decades earlier. Machi plays Ágata, a woman connected to the mystery. Those details describe the film’s fictional plot, as supplied by Netflix.
The supporting cast named in the announcement includes Tristán Ulloa, Marta Nieto, Luis Callejo, Javier Godino and Javier Beltrán. Jordi Vallejo wrote the film, and MOD Producciones is producing it.
Netflix says Brutal will premiere globally on its service but has not announced a release date. The current update confirms production and cast, not a finished film or a scheduled premiere.
For followers of Lennie and Machi, the announcement is the first concrete look at how their characters relate: an investigator trying to uncover an old secret and a person whose outward warmth may conceal more than it reveals. That is the studio’s premise, and it remains to be seen how the film develops it on screen.
